Graduate of the Faculty of Law of Charles University (1979), a prominent Czech lawyer and a recognized expert in criminal law and criminal procedure issues. From 1980 to 2023, he worked at the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. From 2008 to 2021, he was the head of the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. At the same time, from 1998 to 2017, he also taught at the Faculty of Law of Palacký University in Olomouc, where he founded the Department of Criminal Law, which he successfully led for many years. He currently works full-time as a professor at the University of Finance and Administration in Prague. He is also a lawyer in Prague specializing in defense in criminal cases. Professor Jiří Jelínek is the author of the first monograph on the criminal liability of legal entities in the Czech Republic. His publishing activity currently includes around two hundred and twenty items. Professor Jiří Jelínek is a member of the editorial boards of several professional or scientific journals: Criminology, Acta Iuridica Olomucensia; Security Theory and Practice; Forensic Sciences, Criminal Law, Criminal Law; STUDIA IURIDICA Cassoviensia (UPJŠ Košice, SR). He is also the chairman of the editorial board of the Leges publishing house, Prague. In 2015, he was awarded the silver commemorative medal of Charles University by the rector of Charles University in Prague for extraordinary merits in the development of the field of substantive and procedural criminal law. In 2020, the President of the Czech Republic awarded him a state decoration - the 1st degree medal "For Merit to the State in the Field of Education and Schooling."
