Test format & delivery

iTEP exams at VŠFS are administered through our certified iTEP Test Center, ensuring a secure and standardized testing environment.

Test Sections & Interaction:

Grammar, Listening, and Reading:
These sections consist of multiple-choice questions. Examinees select one of four answer options by clicking directly on the screen.
Writing:
Responses are typed into a designated text-entry field. This section assesses the examinee’s ability to construct coherent and grammatically correct written responses.
Speaking:
Examinees record their spoken responses using a headset and microphone connected to their computer. This section evaluates pronunciation, fluency, and overall oral communication skills.

Timing & Navigation:

Each section is timed. If an examinee finishes a section before the allotted time expires, the remaining time can be used to proceed to the next section. This flexible timing helps maintain a smooth testing experience.

Scoring/Grading

The iTEP Academic exam provides both an overall proficiency score and individual scores for each skill and sub-skill tested. Scores range from 0 (Beginner) to 6 (Mastery), with overall results expressed to one decimal point (e.g., 4.2), offering a more precise assessment.

Scoring Breakdown:

Grammar, Listening, and Reading: These sections are scored automatically by the iTEP software, ensuring consistency and objectivity.
Writing and Speaking: These sections are evaluated by trained professionals—native English speakers with ESL expertise—using a standardized scoring rubric.
Equal Weighting: Each section of the test carries equal weight in the final score. There is no penalty for incorrect answers or guessing in the multiple-choice sections.

Score Report:

The official score report provides a detailed breakdown of the examinee’s performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement across all tested skills and sub-skills. This comprehensive feedback supports academic planning and personal development.

When the error occurres during the test:

If you encounter an error during your test, you will be able to repeat any section affected. Our administrators will be in touch with you as soon as an error is detected.
