Round table on the legislative process

14.11.2013

On 8th November a round-table discussion was held at VSFS with a focus on the legislative process. The conference was attended among others by members of the Legislative Council of the Government Aleš Gerloch, (Dean of the Faculty of Law), Hana Marková, (Vice-Dean of the same faculty), Josef Staša (also from the Faculty of Law), Petr Šimerka, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Roman Fiala, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court and the academic staff members of the Department of Law and Public Administration at VSFS.

The purpose of the discussion was to contribute to finding paths leading to the identification of at least the basic factors affecting the current state of law-making in the Czech Republic. The course and the character of the debate were influenced to some extent by the date of the conference - two weeks after the parliamentary elections. The fact that the roundtable took place at "half-time" between parliamentary elections and the first meeting of the newly elected Chamber of Deputies, led to a proposal which won the unanimous support of the participants – to organize a seminar for deputies on the issue of the legislative process. Other themes that emerged from the meeting include the preparation of a project aimed at analyzing the real legislative process and the preparation of a series of discussions and workshops focused on the relationship between politics and law-making process. VSFS representatives said they were interested in active cooperation on all these projects.
